MUSING MONDAYS is a weekly event hosted by Should Be Reading where MizB will ask a book/reading-related question, and you answer with your own thoughts on the topic
Q.What does it take for you to give up on a book you’re reading?

I used to NEVER give up on a book. I would trudge through it no matter what. But as I got older, I realized that I was just wasting my time and could have been using that time to read something amazing. It kills me to have to give up on a book mid read, but sometimes I just have to.

For me it usually has to with the characters and/or their development. If I just simply cannot connect with the main character or at least feel invested in their story than the book as a whole probably isn't going to work for me and I stop reading. Then there's the storyline itself. If I find myself bored chapter after chapter, then I'm not going bother reading till the end. And of course, despite my strive to be open minded at all times, there are times when a book may offend me to the point where I just can't finish it.

I do try and finish all books I start, but when I find that I'm asking myself "Do I really want to finish this book?", then I know it's time to give up on it.

I agree when a book offends or gets a bit smutty I never finish them.

It's so hard to give up on a book. I always hope that it will have a great twist at the end to make up for all the pain. They almost never do. It's interesting to find out why people stopped reading books that I enjoyed. I can see their point, but they did miss out.

I don't like to give up on a book either, but sometimes it's necessary. Here's MY MUSING MONDAYS POST and

I do give on books these days. Not very easily, but like you say, if I start wondering whether I want to finish it, it's probably time to put it down. I'm always hopeful that it gets better, but at some point you just have to give up.
