Destiny's Fire Blog Tour: Steampunk Fashion and a Giveaway

Welcome to my stop on the Destiny's Fire ARC Tour!
I am very excited to have author Trisha Wolfe stopping by today to talk all about the steampunk fashion in her book.

It’s the year 2040, and sixteen-year-old Dez Harkly is one of the last of her kind—part of a nearly extinct race of shape-shifters descended from guardians to the Egyptian pharaohs. Her home and her secret are threatened when the Council lowers the barrier, allowing the enemy race to enter the Shythe haven.
As the Narcolym airships approach, Dez and her friends rebel against their Council and secretly train for battle. Not only is Dez wary of war and her growing affection for her best friend Jace, but she fears the change her birthday will bring. When Dez’s newfound power rockets out of control, it’s a Narcolym who could change her fate… if she can trust him.
Dez’s guarded world crumbles when she discovers why the Narcos have really come to Haven Falls, and she's forced to choose between the race who raised her and the enemy she's feared her whole life.     Publication: January 10th 2012 by Omnific Publishing
Destiny’s Fire Fashion

One of the best parts of writing DESTINY’S FIRE was creating the clothes. I love the Steampunk genre, but I wanted the world of DF to have its own twist. A lot of Steampunk novels take place in the Victorian era, at or around the 1800s. DF is set in the future, and I wanted it to have the Steampunk feel but with a futuristic setting. Some of the guys and girls have dreadlocks, there’s a lot of leather wearing, and of course there are gadgets.

Dez is a bit more modest than most. She likes her jodhpurs, breeches, and blouses. When I was writing, I couldn’t find a backpack that had the look I wanted, so I made up the belt bag with waist and shoulder straps. She wears Reese’s goggles, and sometimes Jace’s. I love Dez’s casual look, but I admit my favorite outfit is the chocolate mini-bustle one she wears to Cogs one night.

Lana was probably the most fun to create outfits for. She holds nothing back, and the girl loves her corsets and leather pants. I couldn’t find the right kind of tops for her when I was writing, so I pretty much made up the “mini-corset”. I believe it’s actually called a short corset, but Lana’s are a little different. Hers are the combination of a chest harness and corset, and they’re really short.

The guys don’t have the typical Victorian look. I really wanted them to have a more Dieselpunk feel, but still fit in with Steampunk genre. They wear a lot of leather, but Nick likes his double-lapel jackets and vests. Jace is never without his jerkin, and he wears a monocular device in one scene. Reese has more of a biker look. Which fits, because they all ride levibikes.

OMG! I love the outfits, damn, it makes me actually want to dress up in steampunk gear. Each year at a convention I go to I keep seeing people dress or sell Steampunk stuff. I can't believe how excited I'm getting about it not to mention that this book is the first Steampunk book I'm actually interested in reading. Not to mention that Reese is so hot!! @_@
