Lost Eden
by G.P. Ching
(The Soulkeepers #5)
November 18th 2013
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Rules. Balance. Consequences. War.

When Fate gave Dane the water from Eden to drink, she did more than save his life. She changed his destiny.

Since the beginning, a compact between God and Lucifer has maintained a tenuous peace, balancing Soulkeepers and Watchers and the natural order of things. Dane upset that balance the day he became a Soulkeeper. Fate broke the rules.

Now, Lucifer is demanding a consequence, requiring Fate to pay the ultimate price for her involvement. God intervenes on the immortal’s behalf but in order to save her soul must dissolve the compact and with it the rules, order, and balance that have kept the peace. A challenge is issued. A contest for human souls begins. And the stakes? Earth. Winner take all.

The Soulkeepers are at the center of a war between Heaven and Hell, and this time, nobody, anywhere, is safe from Lucifer’s reach.

from Lost Eden

As Fatima rose from the dirt, she noticed a patch of black mold where the ceiling met the front wall in the upper corner of her stucco manse. Her home was a product of her consciousness, constructed of her thoughts and will, but this was not hers. She did not invite the darkness. This was something other, something dangerous. The black mold spread, down the corner of the wall to the floor and then mushroomed, reproducing to the size of a grapefruit, a bowling ball, a bush. Fatima backed away, taking her place behind God who held Her ground faithfully.

With a final sprout of growth, the black fuzz paled and hardened, and a man in a shiny gray business suit stepped from the darkness. His blonde curls set off his lapis eyes, and the perfect smile he gave took Fatima’s breath away. But his expression was icy and his posture arrogant. Lucifer.

“I see you are expecting me,” he rasped, his voice holding the sizzle of Hell and his breath the hint of brimstone. Fatima covered her mouth and nose with her hand.

“Say what you came to say,” God said. Her glow increased, pressing his darkness back toward the wall.

He blinked rapidly and then shifted his eyes downward, smoothing his perfectly tailored suit. “I demand a consequence.”

“State your reasoning.”

“Your immortal has broken the law. She has created a Soulkeeper of her own will, and disrupted the balance by sending that soul to attack me in my own dominion.”

“Were you not also to blame, Lucifer? Did you not break our agreement first? Even now, I sense your minions on Earth, in clear violation.”

He gave a half smile and slid his hands into his pockets, pacing toward the archway to the veranda. “No. I did nothing of the sort.”

“You lie.”

“Yes, I do. It is my nature and as such, should be expected. I am entitled to a consequence, and I will not back down until I have my just due.”

5 Ways to be a Soulkeeper this Holiday
by G.P Ching

It seems like only yesterday I was releasing the first book in my Soulkeepers series. Releasing book 5 is almost surreal. As I prepare to complete the series, I’m reminded of what it means to be a Soulkeeper and how thankful I am for the real-life Soulkeepers out there. Here are five ways you can be a Soulkeeper this holiday season.

  1. 1. Bell Ringing- two hours of your time could go a long way toward raising funds for the Salvation Army, an organization that houses and feeds the most vulnerable among us. It’s fun, easy, and the Salvation Army makes it simple to sign up for a slot. Visit this site for more information http://salvationarmynorth.org/volunteer/bellringing .

  2. 2. Collect and Donate – Coats for the homeless and cans for the food drive are things you might do every year, but don’t forget your local Humane Society. Homeless dogs and cats need love too. Many times humane societies need used towels and blankets for the care of the animals. (Call yours first to check for their specific needs.)

  3. 3. Deck the Halls- Many retirement home residents don’t have family and often the home itself can’t afford the time or expense of decorating. Check with your local hospitals and convalescent homes for opportunities to use your crafty talents to spread the holiday cheer.

  4. 4. Provide, Cook, or Serve a Meal- Chances are your local mission has opportunities to help with serving meals this holiday. Usually you have the choice of donating toward the cost of the meal, helping to cook, or serving the residents.

  5. 5. Reach out – To the person in your life that needs a friend. Charity starts at home. Think about the neighbor or family member most in need of compassion and offer it. Sometimes just extending an invitation to dinner can make a huge difference.

There’s no better way to relax after a day of charitable giving than with a good book! I’m so excited to bring you this installment in the series. I hope you will find some time to enjoy Lost Eden.

Y'all know that if I'm participating in a cover reveal then it's for a book that I'm SUPER stoked for! And I am super super excited for the fifth book in G.P. Ching's The Soulkeepers Series. This awesome series is one of my absolute faves, so let's take a look at the cover of book five...

Review: Soul Catcher (The Soulkeepers #4) by G.P. Ching

Be sure to check out my reviews of Book 1, Book 2, and Book 3.

Soul Catcher
(The Soulkeepers #4)
by G.P. Ching
March 2013
Format: eARC
Source: author
Purchase: Amazon / B&N
Dane Michaels has been to Hell and back and isn't interested in repeating the experience. But as a human caught up in the Soulkeeper's world, his life isn't exactly his own. No one can explain why Dane was allowed through the gates of Eden, but it's changed everything. Now, the only one who can make him feel safe is Ethan, the telekinetic Soulkeeper with a dark past and a heart of gold.

When Malini asks Dane to be part of a mission to find the last Soulkeeper, Cheveyo, more than one team member thinks she's tempting Fate. But Malini suspects Fate has had a hand in Dane's life for some time and that he could be the key to unraveling Lucifer's latest plan of attack.

An eARC of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review

*there may be slight spoilers for books 1-3*

When you get to the fourth book in a series, it can get quite hard to write helpful, coherent reviews without getting repetitive and spoilery, so I apologize if this review is vague and brief. But, the great thing about reviewing Soul Catcher, the fourth book in G.P. Ching's excellent The Soulkeeper's series, is that I can gush about how this series only gets better and better!

Like books one through three in The Soulkeepers series, Soul Catcher focuses mostly on a select few characters, and in this book Dane is given the chance to really shine. Malini, Jacob, and the other Soulkeepers find themselves continuing to train in Eden, trying to figure out Lucifer's next move, while desperately in search of Cheveyo, a new Soulkeeper who has gone missing. When the Soulkeepers embark on a mission to find Cheveyo, Malini insists that Dane not only be a part of the mission, but is an integral part. Meanwhile, Dane must sort through his confusing and exciting feelings for Ethan, the telekinetic Soulkeeper.

This series and author G.P. Ching continue to amaze and enthrall me! Soul Catcher proves that this series hasn't slowed down or suffered one bit. The angels and demons mythology is still incredibly fresh and captivating, the characters still intrigue and feel like old friends, while Ching's storytelling still rocks!

I've stated in earlier reviews that I love Ching's take on angels and demons, Heaven and Hell, and the humans caught between them, and she really takes her mythology to some unexpected and wild places. What I really appreciate about this series' Good vs Evil premise, is that it's not all black and white, and it certainly isn't cliché. Ching has created a premise that is smartly complex and refreshing, while still being relatable and believable. Like books 1-3, the world-building in Soul Catcher is great. Ching continues to develop and paint the physical worlds of Hell and Eden, while the history of the mythological world is deftly expanded.

I want to mention, like I do in my other reviews of this series, that even though there are different religious elements in these books, they are in no way preachy. The author does not throw any religious beliefs, values, or practices in the faces of readers. To me (a non-religious person), these books are simply awesome supernatural/fantasy reads with intriguing religious aspects.

The storylines, world-building, and storytelling are all fantastic in this series, but it's the characters that really sparkle! And in Soul Catcher Malini, Dane, and Ethan are brought center stage and given a chance to show what layered, lovable, and well-developed characters they are. Malini continues to be such a strong, admirable heroine with so much depth and heart. And Dane! Oh, how far this guy has come, from bully to compassionate hero, and how much I've grown to love him! And Dane and Ethan?! Be still my beating heart...

Ok, I'm gonna get all fangirly here because I ADORE the friendship and blossoming relationship between Dane and Ethan. We see far too little LGBT characters in YA, especially in YA books that aren't contemporaries, so I'm so glad Ching has written about an out and proud gay character (Ethan) and a questioning character (Dane). The genuine friendship and romantic feelings between these two feel so real and breathtaking. I love that Ching has taken the time to effectively explore Dane's confusion and excitement over his questioning sexuality and feelings for Ethan amidst all the supernatural elements and action in Soul Catcher.

And the baddest baddie of them all, Lucifer, continues to be one of my fave characters in this series. I just love what Ching has done with him and how devilishly charismatic and charming she's made him. What can I say? I have a strange fascination with the fallen angel.

Soul Catcher ends in a terrifically cliffhanger-ly way that has me so excited for book five!

MY FINAL THOUGHTS: Soul Catcher is an awesome addition to an already superb series! Fans of the series will love where G.P. Ching takes her story and characters, and those just starting the series have a fantastic book four to look forward to. A MUST read book in a MUST read series!

Cover Reveal: Soul Catcher (The Soulkeepers Series #4) by G.P. Ching

I love G.P. Ching's The Soulkeeper's Series and I was so excited to learn that there would be a fourth book! And today I'm thrilled to participate in the awesome cover reveal for
Soul Catcher...

Dane Michaels has been to Hell and back and isn't interested in repeating the experience. But as a human caught up in the Soulkeeper's world, his life isn't exactly his own. Add it on Goodreads!

Well, hello there Dane! I love this cover and how well it fits with the other three fantastic covers, which each feature one of the main characters.

About The Cover
Adam Bedore of Anjin Design creates all of the covers for The Soulkeepers Series. Book four revolves around Dane, pictured here, and introduces Cheveyo, a Hopi indian boy and the last Soulkeeper on the list Dr. Silva conjured in book 3. Cheveyo is represented by the dream catcher and adobe wall behind Dane.  Fate, also known as Fatima, plays a role in the story.  You can see her shadow hanging from the red stone in the dream catcher. (Yes, she is represented as a spider. She is a master weaver after all!) And if you think there is something up with that shadow behind Dane, you are not mistaken.  There's more to him than meets the eye.

 About The Book
Soul Catcher is slated for a March release and is the fourth book in the bestselling Soulkeepers series.
