The Adventures of Black Dog Blog Tour {top ten list & giveaway}

I'm so excited to have The Adventures of Black Dog Blog Tour stopping by today with a fun top ten list from the author and an awesome goodie basket giveaway...

The Adventures of Black Dog: Beached Whale
by Tiffany Schmidt
illustrated by Andrew Theophilopoulos
May 1, 2015
Whale is in some trouble! Black Dog, Captain, Tess and Jack to the rescue! From the docks of Vineyard Haven, our fearless friends come to the aid of a friend in need in this wonderful new adventure story for children.

The first tale in The Adventures of Black Dog series, Beached Whale follows the iconic Black Dog of Martha’s Vineyard as she sets sail with Captain and crew aboard the majestic tall ship schooner the Shenandoah. Black Dog and friends journey together through the islands, shores, and harbors of New England and beyond.

Tiffany Schmidt’s Top 10 Summer Books for Kids

1) When a Dragon Moves In by Jodi Moore and Howard McWilliam
What do you do when a dragon moves into your sand castle? It certainly makes life on the beach more exciting! I adore this charming book and it’s funny illustrations.

2) The Seashore Book by Charlotte Zolotow and Wendell Minor
The sensory details in this book always make me feel like I’m at the beach—even when reading it in the middle of a snowstorm! The illustrations are beautifully detailed and the writing is gorgeous. This is a great book to read to prepare little ones for a trip to the shore — or anytime you’re missing the feel of sand between your toes.

3) Should I Share My Ice Cream? (An Elephant and Piggie Book) by Mo Willems.
This sweet story always leaves me craving ice cream — and a buddy to share it with.

4) Stars by Mary Lyn Ray
Fireflies and star gazing are such summery activities. This book always makes me think of running around barefoot in the backyard on summer nights.

5) I’m Bored by Michael Ian Black and Debbie Ridpath Ohi
There comes a point in every summer break when boredom invades. This adorably clever book has fun with that idea, reminding children of all the powers of their imaginations.

6) Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey
This story is a classic I remember from my own childhood. It makes me think of leaving the berry patch with my fingers and mouth stained purple. I still firmly believe that blueberries MUST be picked into tin pails so that you can hear kuplink-kuplank-kuplunk!

7) King Jack and the Dragon by Peter Bently and Helen Oxenbury
Summer days are made for imaginations running wild. This book makes me want to plan campouts and romps in the woods.

8) Fairy tale collections.
Because fairy tales are magical in any season — and staying up late reading these stories under the stars while sipping a big glass of lemonade is a magical way to spend a summer night.

9) Maps by Aleksandra Mizielinska
While there’s nothing particularly summery about this giant book of maps, summer always makes me want to travel and this is the best collections of maps for children I’ve encountered. We’ve spent days pouring over the illustrations in this book and discussing someday adventures all over the world.

10) When Charlie McButton Lost Power by Suzanne Collins and Mike Lester
Summer time means thunderstorms around here and occasionally thunderstorms mean power outages.  Charlie McButton’s adventures once his electronic world is unplugged always make me smile.

Tiffany Schmidt is a former elementary school teacher and the author of several books for young adults as well as The Adventures of Black Dog. Tiffany grew up in Massachusetts, but now lives in Pennsylvania with her saintly husband, her impish twins (The Schmidtlets), and a pair of mischievous puggles.

I love the cover and the characters especially because the protagonist is a dog. I love dogs so I really think my nieces, nephew and I will enjoy the story! It, being an adventure, is a big plus, too! And oh, I'll definitely check the top 10 books Mentioned!
