Welcome to Monsterland—the scariest place on Earth.
Wyatt Baldwin’s senior year is not going well. His parents divorce, then his dad mysteriously dies. He’s not exactly comfortable with his new stepfather, Carter White, either. An ongoing debate with his best friends Melvin and Howard Drucker over which monster is superior has gotten stale. He’d much rather spend his days with beautiful and popular Jade. However, she’s dating the brash high-school quarterback Nolan, and Wyatt thinks he doesn’t stand a chance.
But everything changes when Wyatt and his friends are invited to attend the grand opening of Monsterland, a groundbreaking theme park where guests can interact with vampires in Vampire Village, be chased by werewolves on the River Run, and walk among the dead in Zombieville.
With real werewolves, vampires and zombies as the main attractions, what could possibly go wrong?

Q1. What three words best describe your novel, Monsterland?
Werewolves. Vampires. Zombies.
Q2. Grab a copy of Monsterland and answer the following:
Favorite chapter? Chapter 14 – This is the chapter that I took the most time with. Wyatt and his friends enter Monsterland for the first time. They meet up with Jade and Nolan, and head to the Werewolf River Run. I had the opportunity to create my very own scary ride. Designing my flume ride was one of the most exciting things I did in the book. Think Splash Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean while being chased by real werewolves while in a canoe.
Favorite page? Wyatt finally makes contact with a real werewolf – which is of course, behind an impenetrable wall. The reader is in the thick of the ride at this point, and watching the captured men transform to werewolves gives me goosebumps everytime.
Favorite setting? The Werewolf River Run
Flip to a random page and give us a 1-2 sentences teaser:
Peering through the thick leaves, he searched the foliage, but could see nothing.
“That was creepy. Right Melvin. Mel?” Sean cried.
Melvin was gone.
Q3. Can you tell us a bit about your hero, Wyatt? What makes him special and what do you love most about them?
Wyatt is an everykid. I took a lot of what I was going through in high school (girl angst, trying to fit in) and applied it to Wyatt. The problems that he’s going through are universal and everyone has been through them at one point or another. What I love most about Wyatt is his journey. Every person is on their own journey and he really take it head on. He wants to prove himself. He faces his greatest fears.
Q4. The three main monsters in Monsterland are zombies, vampires, and werewolves...why did you choose these three particular monsters?
I’ve always wanted to write a monster novel, but I couldn’t decide on which monster to write about. Werewolves, vampires and zombies are evergreen. They are classic. I had to include all three.
Q5. If you were to create and bake a cupcake inspired by Monsterland, what would it look and taste like, and what would you call it?
I’m no baker, and I don’t eat sugar, but if I had to create a Monsterland cake, it would be three layers. First layer would be silver for the werewolves (I’d probably have the entrance to the Werewolf River Run), red for the vampires craving of blood (I would probably have the Nightmare Arena where they perform made of blood red chocolate), and then I’d have a green layer for the zombies – the green represents their disease and the grass they are walking on in Zombieville.

I would love to win this book because I've been a huge fan of the big monsters since I was a little girl! I've seen the classic Dracula and Wolfman more times than I can count, I love all versions of zombies, I love all werewolves and lycanthropes, and I love all vampires and lamia. I would love to see a Monsterland in real life!
