WHO RUNS THE WORLD? SQUIRRELS!
Fourteen-year-old Doreen Green moved from sunny California to the suburbs of New Jersey. She must start at a new school, make new friends, and continue to hide her tail. Yep, Doreen has the powers of . . . a squirrel! After failing at several attempts to find her new BFF, Doreen feels lonely and trapped, liked a caged animal. Then one day Doreen uses her extraordinary powers to stop a group of troublemakers from causing mischief in the neighborhood, and her whole life changes. Everyone at school is talking about it! Doreen contemplates becoming a full-fledged Super Hero. And thus, Squirrel Girl is born! She saves cats from trees, keeps the sidewalks clean, and dissuades vandalism. All is well until a real-life Super Villain steps out of the shadows and declares Squirrel Girl his archenemy. Can Doreen balance being a teenager and a Super Hero? Or will she go . . . NUTS?

Moving across the country and starting at a new junior high is never easy, especially when you’re a fourteen year old with a squirrel tail. And Doreen Green definitely has a squirrel tail...plus other awesome squirrel-ish powers. But unlike the famous Avengers in NYC and Doreen’s hero, She-Hulk in California, Doreen must keep her tail, ability to talk to squirrels, and other powers, a secret...which is really hard when Doreen makes an actual non-squirrel friend, accidentally keeps saving the day, and becomes the target of a new Super Villain. Doreen’s life is seriously about to get NUTS!

Squirrel Girl may not be as famous as other Super Heroes, but after reading The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World, she’ll become your new favorite hero on the scene! Shannon and Dean Hale have brought Squirrel Girl to life for a new generation, in a super fun, super exciting, and super entertaining way.

Chock full of unforgettable characters, crazy adventure, and laugh-out-loud funnies, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World is the right kind of nutty...seriously, this book made me gigglesnort! There are lots of witty Marvel jokes and tidbits (Doreen actually texts with several Marvel characters) and readers will enjoy watching some of their favorite Super Heroes pop up. Told through various POV’s (Doreen, Ana Sofia, Tip the Squirrel, the evil villain MicroManager), this story unfolds in the most engaging and pitch-perfect voices. The Hales have cleverly combined both Doreen’s human world and Tip’s surprisingly complex squirrel world (with an awesome squirrel language and slang), and young readers will get a kick out of both worlds.

Doreen, aka Squirrel Girl, with her funny footnotes, can-do attitude, and optimism, is full on delightful and irresistible! I loved every moment I spent with Squirrel Girl and would totally be her BFF. From Doreen, to fierce Ana Sofia, brave Tippy, Doreen’s adorkable parents, and her eclectic peers, every page of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World is bursting with great characters.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World is for everyone: fans of Squirrel Girl, those meeting her for the first time, Marvel fanatics, etc. Pure fun and charm from beginning to end, this is one comic inspired book not to miss!

And I’ll leave you with this Squirrel Girl saying:
I’m here to kick butts and eat nuts. And I’m ALL OUT OF NUTS!”

  2. I think I'd be a cat--stealthy, excellent hearing and eyesight, and very limber for jumping and falls.

  4. Maybe I'd be a fox - wily, agile, sneaky.

  5. I have searched two bookstores while out for this and have been unsuccessful. To win some Squirrel Girl would be grand.

(imagine this text smaller: winning isn't exactly grand, but it is cool).

After much thought and only recently being introduced to blog awards and blogger tagging, I'm going to have to declare this an award/tag free blog. I'm honored, humbled, and so very grateful for simply being considered for an award, but I simply do not have the time to return the favor. If I could, I'd award y'all with dozens of yummy cupcakes ;) Thanks for understanding.
