Young Adult Vault...is a Saturday meme hosted by Short and Sweet that encourages the sharing of "hidden gems" and favorite books from years past.
A few rules from Short and Sweet:
1. The book MUST be a YA book (hence the name).
2. The book has to be at least one year older than the date you post it.
3. Please grab the button I made for this meme- I worked so hard on it!

I think this is an awesome new meme! Here's my first Young Adult Vault "hidden gem":
Cut
Patricia McCormick
Pub. Date: Feb. 1, 2002
From Goodreads:
"A tingle arced across my scalp. The floor tipped up at me and my body spiraled away. Then I was on the ceiling looking down, waiting to see what would happen next." Callie cuts herself. Never too deep, never enough to die. But enough to feel the pain. Enough to feel the scream inside. Now she's at Sea Pines, a "residential treatment facility" filled with girls struggling with problems of their own. Callie doesn't want to have anything to do with them. She doesn't want to have anything to do with anyone. She won''t even speak. But Callie can only stay silent for so long...
This was one of the first books I ever read about the issue of cutting (self-injury) and it is also one of the most powerful. I have a very personal connection to this book and to this issue, so I find myself re-reading this book often. My copy is well worn and filled with my own thoughts and muses inspired by each reading. It is compelling, heart-achingly honest, and beautifully written. I highly recommend this book to teen and adult readers alike, especially those suffering from any type of self-injury or self-harm issue.
This book can now be purchased from the following:
- The Book Depository
- Amazon (both paperback and ebook)
Thanks for joining in! This is such a relevant book- thank you for sharing it!

ReplyDeleteOh God, I am in awe right now. I can NEVER read these kinds of books, the emotion, and the reality of it is always too much for my little dreamer heart!
I admire people who read these books and connect with them. I would too, but God knows I'd be bawling and drowning in my tears, I'm such a baby. D;
