Interview and Giveaway: Shannon Eckrich

I'm happy to have the lovely Shannon Eckrich here today for an interview and giveaway. Shannon is the author of the YA book Other Side of Forever...

Seventeen-year-old Allie Anderson's telekinetic powers are anything but useful--she can't bring her father back, can't stop her mother's downward spiral into alcohol, and can't keep her from falling in love with Ethan Bradley. Loving Ethan is easy, but it comes with a hefty price: Ethan is prohibited by his people from interacting with mortals--because he isn't mortal himself. When Allie and Ethan's love is discovered, there's someone who will do anything to keep them apart. If Allie can't learn to control her powers and fight to save Ethan, this dark entity will make every attempt to stop her beating heart. And if that happens, not even the energy of an immortal can bring her back.

Ethan rushed out of the trees and raced over. He kneeled down beside me, his expression matching the feeling that throbbed through my leg. "Are you okay, Allie?" he asked. His breathing remained steady, even though I knew he had been running through the woods. How weird. But I was in too much agony and too confused about what happened only minutes ago to ask him about it.
"My ankle," I said.

He lifted his gaze from my face to stare at my hands. He pushed my hands away and replaced them with his. The warmth zipping through my ankle began to numb the pain.
"Where did you come from?" I asked, watching his hands in disbelief.
"I live on the other side of the woods," he answered, shooting me a sideways glance before focusing back on my injury.

"How convenient for me that Ethan Bradley lives on the other side of the woods." The memory of our argument the night before flashed back into my mind.

"Apparently it's very convenient." He pressed his lips together. "If not, you would be stuck out here in the middle of nowhere without a way to get home."

The heat from his hands intensified, and I was no longer able to speak. A tingling sensation snaked its way into my ankle and slithered up my body. His energy completely relaxed me. And then, all traces of pain were gone. It was if I had never been injured at all.
"How…how did you do that?"

He looked over at me, his dark eyes drowning in hesitation. I thought he was going to tell me the truth this time, but I was wrong.

WS: What three words best describe OTHER SIDE OF FOREVER?
SE- Powerful. Passionate. Quirky.

WS: Give us your best one sentence pitch that tells us why we must read OTHER SIDE OF FOREVER.
SE- If you're into really hot guys, a new take on powers and abilities, emotionally-charged scenes, and a teen girl who isn't afraid to kick some serious immortal butt, then you MUST read Other Side of Forever.

WS:  What inspired the story in OTHER SIDE OF FOREVER? Where did the story idea come from?
SE- I've always been fascinated with immortals. I mean, how cool would it be to live forever? So, the story has basically been begging me to write it for such a long time, I just needed to set some time aside to get Allie's story down.

WS: Who was your favorite character to write and explore in OTHER SIDE OF FOREVER? What do you love about them?
SE- Definitely Allie. She's smart, responsible, tough on the outside but constantly battles with her emotions on the inside. And she has super cool powers.

WS: Grab a copy of OTHER SIDE OF FOREVER and answer the following:
Favorite chapter?
     SE- Chapter 6.
Favorite page?
     SE- pg 119
Flip to a random page, choose a random sentence and give us a little teaser:
SEEthan brought his hands up, intertwining his fingers into mine. The warmth of our bodies connecting turned into a scorching heat, a burning desire that I didn’t understand.
He lifted his head, searching for my eyes. Once he found them, he locked on, refusing to blink as he drew me in. In an instant, it reminded me of the night we met. The way he’d seemed to peer into the depth of my soul. Except I wasn’t confused this time. Instead of fighting, instead of pushing him away like I did that night, I surrendered.

WS: In OTHER SIDE OF FOREVER your characters have some unusual abilities...what supernatural ability would you love to have? What would you do with it?
SE- I would love to be able to see and communicate with ghosts. Like have the sixth sense or something. I know a few people who can actually do this, and I'm pretty jealous. I think we could learn a lot from ghosts. And possibly put our fears of where we go after we die to rest.
It would also be awesome to have telekinetic powers, too!

WS- What supernatural/mythical being is your favorite and/or fascinates you the most?
SE- Ghosts. I absolutely love them.

WS: Who is your all time favorite YA heroine and hero?
SE- Wow, it's kind of hard to pick just one, but I would have to go with Spiderman. He is just as confused about his abilities as Allie is in the beginning.

WS: Fill in the blanks:
I am awesome at:  Multitasking.
I'm embarrassed to admit that:  I can be a little ditzy at times.
My literary crush (character or author) is:  It's a toss up between Detective Jake Dilessio from Heather Graham's Picture Me Dead and Logan Thibault from Nicholas Spark's The Lucky One. Both of them are seriously hot.
The one tv show I never miss is:  The Haunting of...  It's the new celebrity ghost show where celebrities face their fears of the supernatural.
The last fantastic book I read was: Siren by Angie Sage.

WS: If you were to create and back an OTHER SIDE OF FOREVER inspired cupcake what would it look and taste like and what would you call it?
SE- If I had to create a cupcake for Other Side of Forever, I would start out with vanilla cake because it is so soft and delicate like Allie's emotions. Then I would add whipped chocolate icing with white and blue sprinkles, which symbolizes light, innocence, mystery, and magic. I would then top it all off with a perfect strawberry, which would represent the passion, desire, and love Ethan and Allie have for one another.

Thank you so much Shannon for answering my questions!
